Mudiac
Crafting the digital experience for a scattered Italian Museum.

Mudiac is the Scattered Museum of Contemporary Art located in the urban space of the city of Catanzaro in the south of Italy. The Museum is the result of an urban regeneration process born with the Altrove festival, which between 2014 and 2019 led national and international artists to donate their works to the city. For its launch in 2022, I’ve been asked to design and develop a website that could function as an extension of the museum itself and expand the visitor experience.

With this in mind, the website experience has been conceived to intercept the different types of visitors that can approach the museum, such as those who don’t know the museum yet, those who are planning a visit and those who are already in the city ready to visit.

The interface and architecture themselves as well as been designed to reflect such a diversified experience, for instance, the layout and which information are presented to users vary whether they are visiting the website on desktop or mobile devices. In this sense, the Desktop website navigation can be perceived as more informative and institutional while the website on mobile functions as a tool for navigating and exploring the museum, with interactive routes, maps, audio guides and immersive tours.

Working close at hand with the creators of the museum I took care of each project phase from ideation and research to design, developing and testing while also building with them the museum's new brand identity. Some visual elements that emerged in the website design phase have furthermore been used as brand identity modules such as shapes, colors and the use of typography.
